F*** the bro marketing and the hype merchants.

Just because AI can do something does not mean AI should do it.

FOLLOW-THROUGH

Worked example

A person working at a desk in an office after dark

Why does every follow-up still take so long?

Read the note +

Three client calls. After each, you spend 45 minutes writing a recap, drafting a follow-up, and updating the client file and shared document. That is 135 minutes of work beyond the calls.

AI can draft the recap. It cannot know which promises were actually agreed unless the source makes that clear. A faster draft helps only if checking, corrections and updating the records do not consume the time you saved.

Try this on your own work.

Time the whole job once. Separate preparation, checking and updating. Then test one call using notes that distinguish decisions, requests and unanswered questions. Compare the whole effort, not just the draft.

CONTEXT

Worked example

A person working with a laptop and notebook at a desk

Why are you explaining the same thing again?

Read the note +

A client asks why the deadline changed. Your partner asks which file is current. Everyone can open the folder, but you are still the one who knows the history.

The missing piece may be the decision record: what changed, why, who agreed, and what happens next. More storage will not create that context for you.

Try this on your own work.

Write a five-line handoff for one recent decision: source, decision, owner, next step, unresolved question. Ask someone else what they would do next without calling you.

PRACTICE

Worked example

A hand arranging a process board

Can a change that failed still be a good case?

Read the note +

Yes. A case can end in keep, adjust or stop. What matters is the quality of the evidence, the judgment and the facilitation.

Try this on your own work.

Take one change you tried recently. Write down the starting evidence, what you decided, what happened and what you’d do next.

JUDGMENT

Worked example

A person considering documents at a kitchen table

What should AI never decide for you?

Read the note +

A note says, “The client requested Friday delivery.” An AI summary says, “Delivery is confirmed for Friday.” The sentence sounds clean. The meaning changed.

AI can organize what the source says. The responsible person must confirm capacity before making a promise. Your standard should make that distinction visible.

Try this on your own work.

Give the AI three headings: confirmed facts, requests, open questions. Check every commitment against the source. Correct the unsupported statement and identify who can confirm the date.
