HUMAN API.

THE HUMAN API METHOD

Decide what the work needs.
Then choose the tool.

Human judgment. Practical capability. Useful systems. A shared way to work through one person’s situation, a team’s work, or a connected business system.

NINE CONNECTED ACTIVITIES

A sequence to begin.
A circle to return to.

Follow one question at a time. Change the arrangement and the connections become easier to see. Select any piece to explore the work it leaves behind.

The same pieces. Another perspective.

WHAT YOU CARRY FORWARD

Worked example

Four teams. One customer change.

Sales updates its CRM. Service, billing and marketing still use different information. Follow the selected activity to see what it asks of this situation.

THREE LEVELS / ONE METHOD

Know where you are.
Know what comes next.

The engagement contains the working stages. The stages contain the nine activities. Each level has a different job.

THE ENGAGEMENT

Prepare → Breakthrough → Improve

Before the room. In the room. After the room.

THE WORKING STAGES

See → Sort → Choose

Understand the situation. Decide how the work belongs. Test a change and keep what works.

THE NINE ACTIVITIES

One question at a time. A usable record at each step.

01

See.

Agree what is happening and why.

02

Choose · Assess · Lock

Categorize

Give each part
the right support.

A person’s judgment, a reliable process, and AI support have different jobs. Try this example arrangement. The owner still decides what is appropriate in real work.

A CUSTOMER CHANGE REQUEST

Approve a change that conflicts with an existing agreement.

Select where the task belongs in this example.

Human judgment

Authority, context, consequence.

Reliable process

Agreed rules and repeatable handoffs.

AI support

A bounded task, checked by a person.

Categorize also asks what to keep, delegate, systematize or stop. AI support is a possible assignment, never an automatic requirement.

THE METHOD CONNECTS THE WHOLE

FROM THE ROOM INTO REAL WORK

Write first.
Then compare.

Each person records their own work before discussion. Differences stay visible; they are often the finding. The group agrees what to test and what still needs checking.

AN IDENTIFIED PROBLEM

Fix a bottleneck.

Follow a recurring issue far enough to see what causes it. Design a bounded test, with an owner and a review date.

A CAPABILITY TO BUILD

A message arrives. Something has changed. Someone needs an answer. A decision you thought was settled needs your attention again. You find the conversation. Check the details. Ask another person. Explain what happened. By the time the work moves forward, something else has been waiting.

Sometimes, it’s another project. Sometimes, it’s someone at home. Sometimes, it’s you.

Our work and our lives are connected long before we find a way to connect the systems that support them. We carry the missing information. Remember the next step. Hold the pieces together. Until there’s very little room left.

The work keeps arriving. Decisions collect in one place. Attention moves back and forth. And capacity begins to slip away in the spaces between.

So where do we begin? With one situation. One piece we can pick up and understand.

That’s where Human API comes in. Our method is practical. A way to see what’s happening, work through the connections, and put a useful change into practice.

We begin by asking what needs to change. Pinpoint. That message keeps interrupting the day. What would a better outcome look like for the person asking, the person answering, and everyone waiting?

Then we look beneath the interruption. Root. Why does the same question keep coming back? Perhaps the answer lives in someone’s memory. Perhaps a responsibility was never clear. Perhaps the information changed, but the people doing the work never received it.

We follow the work far enough to understand. Audit. The search. The explanation. The waiting. The checking afterward. All of it takes something.

Now we can see more of the picture. Categorize. Which parts need human judgment? Which belong in a reliable process? Where could AI provide useful support? Each piece begins to find its place.

But a piece needs a connection. Transition. We make the handoff usable. The right information, a clear responsibility, and a next step someone can actually take.

Instruct. Where AI can help, we give it a bounded job. The context it needs, the limits it must respect, and a clear way for a person to check its work. Then we decide what to try.

Choose. One change. Someone responsible. A test we can learn from. We put it into practice.

And look again. Assess. Did the question reach the right person? Was the answer useful? Did we reduce the whole effort, including the checking and correction? What changed for the people involved?

Lock. We keep what the evidence supports. Record how it works. Make it available to the next person who needs it.

Piece by piece, a sequence is formed. Then we turn it around. The same pieces reveal a circle.

A decision affects a handoff. A handoff depends on information. What we learn changes the instructions, and sometimes the situation we thought we understood. We can return to any piece with a different perspective. That’s how the method stays useful as life changes.

And as the connections improve, there can be more room. Room to finish something thoughtfully. To respond without starting over. To leave work with less of it still running through your mind.

Greater capacity takes shape through the work we do together. In the Human API Workshop, you bring a situation from your own life or organization. You work through the pieces and build a change you can test. The picture becomes clearer. And we return to the question at its center.

What do you want greater capacity to make possible? You belong there. At the center of the systems you create. At home. At work. One human. More capacity. Human API.

CAPACITY, COUNTED HONESTLY

A forecast is
not a result.

Capacity includes time, attention, skills and support. Track three different things. They are distinct measures, not numbers to add together.

BEFORE THE TEST

Estimated

What might become possible. A forecast with assumptions that still need testing.

AFTER THE WHOLE EFFORT

Verified

Comparable effort before, minus the total effort after. Setup, checking, corrections and upkeep all count.

IN SOMEONE’S LIFE

Actually used

Where the room went: a better decision, thoughtful work, a customer, a relationship, or rest.

WHAT GOES INTO THE COUNT

Count the connection,
not just the task.

The same work, period and quality. An improvement shared across departments is counted once.

  • Doing the work
  • Setup and handover
  • Checking and correction
  • Maintenance
  • Work moved to someone else
